WHY MENTAL WORK SHOULD NOT BE DONE JUST AFTER TAKING FOOD ?

PROF WAQAR HUSSAIN

When we eat food , blood is supplied to the nerves of the stomach to enable it to do the work of digestion property. If one starts reading, writing or indulge in any sort of mental work just after taking food ; brain start working, needs energy and thus requires a flow of blood towards it for its proper functioning. Mental work undertaken just after the taking food tends to disrupt the natural flow of the blood as a result, neither stomach can digest the food properly nor mental work is 100% efficient. Nowadays, it has become accustom that many youngsters takes food and start the mental work as a result, they are continuously suffering from complain of upset stomach. When stomach doesn't work properly, the process of digestion is halted and food is not digested properly. Digestion require breaking down of large food molecules to smaller ones with the help of specific enzymes. For example, large carbohydrates are broken to small glucose molecules; Large protein are split to small amino acids and large Fat/Oil(triglycerides) are broken into smaller unit of fatty acids and glycerine. This process of breaking down of complex food molecules into simple, small and easily diffusible molecules is called digestion. When the process of digestion is incomplete ; less amount of diffusible small molecules are formed and less nutrient are absorbed by the body and thus large chunk of undigested food containing large molecules is passed out through the bowel. Thus, body is deprived of essential food nutrients, thus get less energy. It  making the body weak and vulnerable so it is advisable to take a pause of mental work of about 20 minutes after taking meal .
Elders have advised  us to have a nap of 20 minutes after taking lunch. When mind is taking rest in short sleep 0f 20 minute; mind at rest need a little amount of blood and almost all of blood flow towards single direction i.e. stomach and thus food is digested properly and body gets huge amount of calories to perform various activities. Thus making us hale and hearty.
Further, our forefathers have  advised to have slow walk for 70 steps or so, after taking the night dinner .The purpose of taking 70 light steps after night dinner is to facilitate churning of stomach as by movement of body, roiling of stomach is facilitated, consequently, it digests the food properly and make a huge bulk of energy.Secondly, we enjoy peaceful aasleep.Otherwise murmuring of stomach pave way for horrible dreams.
So it is always advisable to follow your elders words of advice because it is the gist of wisdom acquired through experiences of generations after generations; passing through the test of trial and error and ultimately developing into a concrete result.(the word of advice). This elderly wisdom pass from one generation to another and we get it through our father or grandfather.Benefit lies in following it !Perhaps, it is the reason that acting upon the advice and obedience of father is rated so high in religion!s
