Prime minister's speech on 1-Day
The 14th August is a red
letter day in the history of Pakistan. On that day, 4M years ago, Pakistan
emerged as a nation on the world map The independence day of Pakistan is
celebrated with great zeal and zest. The day is marked with various events and
ceremonies. The newspaper, magazine and Journals publish special supplements to
commemorate the day The electronic media relay vanety of programmers to have a
spree of Independence day. On the eve of the 14th August, special ceremony is
conducted in Islamabad in which national flag is hoisted , nut al anthem is
displayed, the Quran and the Na at is recited, the president or the premier
delivers message to the nation and finally children sing national songs in
chorus This year I was astonished to ICC the arrangement made on I he 14th
August for the opening event as the number of scats were lying vacant
indicating that invitees have not bothered to panic lc in the prestigious national day's opening
ceremony. Furthermore, the people who were present on the occasion were
perspiratutg and pulsating. They were struggling to relieve themselves from berst. Reluctantly, they were paying little attention to the pro-. Thaw are minor
proleterwe which can b rectified by adopting suitable measures i s the
progrentine can be held under
at/Wit:4i place, proper fanning can also be helpful or time
of ceremony can be fixed a bit earlier etc President is the head of state. fie
should have presided the meeting instead of prime minister. "pm speech of
PSI VW:if impressive and according to the occaston ab initio. She discussed the
struggle movement and evoked the patriotic spirit of nation Suddenly she
deviated Iron the right path and started disc-liming political differ-cotes,
and mentioning the achievements made by her party in last decades. It seemed as
if she was addressing to her party workers Instead of nation. This part of
speech was objectionable as the programmed was telecast live to about No countries.
During her speech she mentioned that their differences with Ayub Khan started
on Tashkent Declaration in 1965. She should have known that Tashkent Declaration
was signed in January 1966. It is an imponzint date in the history of Pakistan.
One expect from prime minister to know such dates. Furthermore, she was experiencing
great difficulty in speaking Urdu and was mispronouncing even common Urdu words
and was committing fundamental grammatical mistakes. It looks awful when her
party takes credit of formulating 1973 Constitution in which it is clearly
stated that in 1988 Urdu will be completely imposed. On the other hand, the role of opposition was also
disappointing. The opposition leader issued the statements which were not
suit-able according to sanctity of the day. It awned as if both the nilingperty
and the apposition eunen 'iodising the occasion for their own political cause.
The 14th August is the Independence day of Pakistan. It is the day of national
integration and revival of oath of commitment to the nation. This day should be
celebrated in much more graceful manner. Opening ceremony can he arranged in
10:11 Pak Lahore under the canopy of Miner-i-pak-Ulan. It will bring fruitful
result due to following reasons. Firstly, the Lahorities arc very
enthusiastic. Secondly, a large number of people can he accommodated in lqbal
Park. Thirdly, the place has great historical background. Fourthly, the
surrounding of the , Park also depicts history of Muslim in sub-continent which
was the main driving force behind the creation of Pakistan. Such ceremonies can
be rotated to other cities of countries year after year. In sum, l4th August is
the day of integration, not the day of difference. Our leaders should understand
the gravity of Independence day please!
WAOAR HUSSA1N,
Lahore.
